If you're new to the Scavengers room (or really, any room or anything), you might encounter some unfamiliar terminology or phrases. You'll often see people react to certain happenings in a certain way, or you'll be in the middle of a conversation that you don't understand at all, but everyone else seems to understand the topic at hand. In an effort to help people better understand Scavengers' culture and history, I've decided to find some common references or phrases that the users of Scavengers use and talk about them here.
The 3 m's of scavengers
While only mentioned once in a while in announcements and the like (such as on the website), most Scavengers know about our three mottos:
In all seriousness (or as much seriousness as the mottos are), these are the real mottos:
- Mcool Mquiz
- Mbeat up pesp
- More memes
In all seriousness (or as much seriousness as the mottos are), these are the real mottos:
- Make Hunts
- Maintain Good Chat Presence
- Mhave fun
- Make quality hunts frequently
- Maintain a positive chat presence
- Mhave fun scavenging!
Hunt finishing messages
You probably see people saying "nice hunt" or the like when finishing the hunt, and you've probably said it when finishing one yourself. Here are a few popular finishing messages (or some iconic ones used by certain users):
- moce jimt - A typo of nice hunt. Source: adiass
- cool quiz - Source: Meicool quiz
- gneiss hunt - Source: Unknown, possibly Cyllage, mostly (recently) used by DarkShinyGiratina as [Metamorphic Rock]+[Spoopy] or gneiss haunt
- spectacular scavenge - Source: 111ace111 as a derivative of alliterative congratulations
- Amazing Quality Quiz - Source: A Quail's Query
Honorable mentions
These references either aren't used as much anymore or didn't warrant their own section due to their brevity.
- beat up (pesp) - Originating from an official by Painter Espeon in which Beat Up was the listed answer but not a correct one (personally I preferred "beat up doesn't make contact" but that never stuck), it is now used like you would use the phrase "beat up" normally (figuratively or otherwise)
- pokmonsweethoney - Reference to an infamous 7 hour official by Snaquaza. atranslatingmachineforpokmoncries is similar and from the same official
- is chinese playing in pspl / he's called pokemonvortex - AKA Chinese is pokemonvortex. Attributed to 3.14dgeot-Mega, actually said by coinboy
- global ro - Related to chupps, an old user
- gO - Also related to chupps, now more commonly used in Game Corner, sometimes used when finishing hunts
- ez acertou - From Gartic (a Pokemon Pictionary game) but also related to chupps, rarely used (now) when finishing hunts
That's all from me. If I missed your favorite reference, please don't let me know, because I'm not going to update this article! (Nah, if you want to tell me for whatever reason, I don't mind.)
Maybe one day you'll make your own mark in Scavengers history (maybe you already have), but anyways, always remember to mhave fun!
